The head of Maverick Entertainment has come under fire for comparing her mother to the Virgin Mary. Lola Leon, 52, suggested that her late mother, the entertainer Madonna, should be nominated for beatification. 'She is as famous as the original Madonna and has kept the name of the Mother of God globally known,' she said. 'As for the argument that she wasn't a virgin, well, the holy Madonna was no virgin either.' Monsignor Russell, head of the Catholic Church in England, was dismissive: 'I am old enough to remember the antics of her mother as a young singer. She is treading on very thin ice by comparing the sacred and the profane.' RD
